Dear Folks,
Synod 2009 has launched us on our new year and given us our marching orders in regards to how we are to be a church or a communion for the 21 century. I think the quintessential question is: how do we grow a relevant church or communion in a society that increasingly sees the Church itself as irrelevant to their daily lives?
I have made a decision as one of the three Convening Bishops of the EFCC, and as the one most currently most able to do so, to utilize all the web has to offer in this coming year. I am exploring the various social networking applications, media platforms, and new venues of information dissemination.
For those of you who know me you will remember how resistant I am to change and how often I curse all things computer driven as “tools of the devil” but I feel that our use and mastery of current technology is crucial in the modern effort to proclaim the Gospel to the ends of the earth making disciples of all nations.
On the national level we have built a page for the EFCC on Facebook, which is where this very discussion is originating from. I have opened an account for both me personally and the EFCC on Twitter. We have converted all of our ministry websites to the Wordpress content management platform and encourage you to become a subscriber to each of them contributing as you are able. We also, for some time, have utilized Yahoo Egroups for various discussion forums.
These are just some of our efforts toward evagelization, growth, and retention. By all means let’s discuss more ways we can accomplish our goals.
While this discussion is going to be started and continued on our Facebook page I wanted to utilize our other platforms to let people know what we are doing as so you will see this post on the egroups and our various websites as well. By all means let us continue the dialog in whatever platform you are comfortable in, just be sure and join us in the conversation.
I invite you to join with me in these efforts. Help me to help us. Let this effort become a we thing and not just a me thing. Step out of your comfort zone, explore all the internet has to offer and together we can grow not only the EFCC but also our own individual local ministries and thus help to build the Kingdom of God.
Pax Christi,

Chances: The Women of Magdalene
By Bp. Brian Ernest Brown | April 28, 2009
Chances: The Women of Magdalene
This is an amazing film called Chances: The Women of Magdalene. The film takes an inside look at what happens when a group of drug-addicted prostitutes get a second chance from Nashville Episcopal Reverend Becca Stevens.
We are pleased to offer a viewing here on the EFCC’s website so that we might all learn something from this informative documentary and from Reverend Becca’s courageous ministry to these brave women.

The People of God: Peace of Mind
By Bp. Brian Ernest Brown | April 28, 2009
The People of God
by Bishop Karl PruterChapter XIV Peace of Mind
Several decades ago, Rabbi Liebmann wrote a book entitled Peace of Mind. Unintentionally he began a cult which enjoyed a great rage for over twenty years.
Americans had, at last, found a use for God. God was not some remote being in the heavens, but was the source of a most elusive quality of life, “Peace of Mind.”
After that, all kinds of people began to discover that it was practical to believe in God. In fact, we ever got one new sect that taught that if you really had faith, then your life would be blessed with health, wealth, and happiness. Those who failed to prosper, or whose joints ahce with ago, or rheumatism, obviously lacked faith. In short, people wanted to believe in God, because they felt it would pay off in the forms of all the good things of life.
