He Can Help

By msgrslaughter | November 17, 2008

In this Topsy-Turvy world we live in we know we’ll encounter trials throughout our lifetime, such as the death of a loved one, relationship conflict, or financial stress. But still even knowing that we are going to face these hurdles, I still hear people asking “where do we go for comfort and help during these times?”

My friends, I am here to tell you that our Lord provides us with the perfect place to turn.

Hebrews chapter 4:16 tells us to “draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Some people avoid coming before the throne of God. They associate it with condemnation. Isaiah chapter 6:4-6 says while the place where He abides is holy, it’s also full of His love, grace, and mercy.

Remember, and this is important, we have access to God’s throne because of our salvation. Once we accept Jesus’ death as forgiveness for our sin, the heavenly Father sees us as righteous. This is why Christians can confidently draw near to Him to find love and acceptance.

The Lord delights when His children approach Him. We can expect divine grace and mercy to aid us in our difficulty. God gives us blessings and help we don’t deserve through grace. He does this while keeping us from punishment we do deserve. His answer to our cry may not be exactly what we expect or hope. But, just as a loving dad would do for his child, our Father knows what we really need and will act in our best interest. The Lord is trustworthy.

When trouble comes, remember to turn to the One who understands your need and is able to help.

With reverence and confidence, approach the throne of grace!

Lord I pray that you give me courtesy:
give me meekness of bearing, with decision of character:
give me longsuffering:
give me charity:
give me sincerity of speech:
and give me diligence in my allotted task.

Father, thou who in the fullness of time did raise up our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to enlighten our hearts with the knowledge of your love, grant me the grace to be worthy of his name. We ask this in the name of our Lord Christ Jesus. Amen.

God bless and keep each of you in his grace.

In Christ’s Service,

Let Him guide each step of the journey

By msgrslaughter | September 29, 2008

It’s kind of hard to accept but the Lord has a plan for your life. He has a perfect will and a specific course in mind just for you. Some believers are frightened of God’s will. The idea of a divine plan isn’t attractive, because it requires a great deal of trust and faith.

One thing that I’ve noticed is that we’re usually quick to trust God with someone else’s needs. But, we’re often slow to trust Him with ours. To make things more confusing, some people misunderstand what the Lord’s will actually is.

Because He Came, We Must Go

By msgrslaughter | September 25, 2008

Can you imagine what the intensity must have been like in the room when Jesus appeared to His disciples in John chapter 20:19-23? The disciples spent days in hiding. They were afraid for their lives. They were still mourning the loss of their Master and yet here he was.  They were stunned to see Him standing before them in a locked room. And, if the shock of His appearance wasn’t enough, think about the statement He made from John chapter 20:21. “As the Father has sent me, I also send you”. The weight of that comment alone must have seemed overwhelming.

He was sent to the world for a purpose

By msgrslaughter | September 15, 2008

Too often I have counseled folks who fall into a belief that they have no real purpose in life. They get up, go to work, come home, and zone out in front of the TV. Then it’s time to go to sleep and start all over. Where in this routine are they making time to fulfill their true purpose? This isn’t the model that Jesus set for us.

If you take a look at the life of Christ, we can clearly see His coming was no accident and His time was not wasted. He lived His life “on target.”
